As we lay here - Evaluation

During the making of the music video my responsibilities were to be the camera man during some of the filming and I also done about half of the editing. In the video I was involved in setting up the tripod and camera quite a lot on the beach and I also thought of some ideas on where to film on the beach such as at the water fountain and where you see the feet with the wave going in and out on the beach. The parts that I edited the most on the video were mostly the parts with the guitar playing and the parts with the waves on the beach, I also saturated and tinted and a few of the clips.

I think that my contribution during the making of the project was very helpful because I managed to think of quite a big amount of ideas and there were a couple of times when we were a little bit stuck on what to do so I came up with some suggestions. I think that I done a lot of good work but I think the elements that I need improving on was that a tiny bit of my camera work was a little bit messy but apart from that I think that I done a contribution.

I learned quite a lot from making the programme. I learnt a lot of new skills such as when you place the camera in different locations it comes out really good when they are all put together. Another skill that I learnt was on how to use the final cut pro software, because before I didn’t have a clue but now I can do just about anything on it. I learnt a bit of knowledge about how smoother the style of music goes with the black and white filter.

The technical quality of are video was all good quality, I think that the location looked very high quality when we added the tint effect to it, because if we had just left it like it was when we recorded it, it wouldn’t had looked as good at all. I think that are editing quality is at a very high standard because of how clear and smooth the video went. I think that if we were to do the video again I think that the only different thing would be to keep the camera more steady on some of the parts but apart from that I think that it looked very high quality.

I think that the use of editing that we put into the music video was very effective although the whole video was in black and white; I think that it made it look a lot better than in colour because of the type of genre. I also think that because we speeded some parts up it made it look a little bit more exciting to watch. We used a lot of cinematography in the video and I think that this made a big difference to the whole thing. There was not a lot of mise-en-scene in the video because she was not wearing any fancy costume and we didn’t really use any lighting it was all natural.

I think that are ideas came across very well in the finished piece because before we went out to the beach we had done some thinking of what we were going to film ect, and when we were at the beach we filmed everything that we had discussed and we also added some extra footage so that we had a wide range to pick out of. I think that if we done the project again the only difference would probably be to get some more footage because a lot of the parts were repeated a lot. I think that are project responded very well to the brief because it had everything in it from the brief and also the synopsis and treatment. I also think that it met are target audience.

Are target audience thought that are music video was very good to watch. The positive comment that a lot of them said was that they liked it how she did not lip sync though the whole thing until at the end when they were together. We got a lot more positive comments than negative comments. The only negative comment that we got was that they thought that some of the scenes lasted to long. The target audience viewed it the same way as we did.

A lot of things went right on the project, we managed to get all of the shots that we wanted and the editing went as planed. The thing that we found worked well the most was the scene of her standing in front of the see with the waves and pier in the background; this was a very nice looking shot. The only thing that did not go as well as expected was that when we went to record the guitar playing in the studio, we had just set up everything and then a class came in, so we had to go home and record it the next day. But apart from that it all went according to plan.

A project compares to a lot of the effects in the other videos with the same genre that we looked at. I think that the one thing that is the most similar to the other ones has to be that the whole thing is in black and white; a lot of the ones that we looked at were mostly in black and white. Although not a lot of the ones that we looked at were filmed on a beach, the type of shots that we used still looked quite similar.

My opinion of the finished piece of work is that I really like it a lot because of the types of shots and effects that we used in it. Another reason why I really like it is because we used quite a big range of cinematography in it and this made it stand out more. I think that if we were given a chance to do the project again, I think that the only thing that I would approach differently would be to add a few fade transitions between some of the shots in it.
